Incoming pitcher named to national team

In the spring of 2018, freshman Harley Gollert will take the mound in red and white for APSU. Before Gollert becomes a Gov, however, he will wear a different red and white uniform. This one will represent his national team. On Monday, August 28, Team Canada selected Gollert, 18, to represent the nation in the U-18 Baseball World Cup.

Gollert made a pair of appearances for Team Canada U-18 in an exhibition series against Australia’s U-18. In the series, Gollert finished with 7.1 innings on the hump, and eight strikeouts.

Team Canada is drawn into Group A with Australia, Italy, Nicaragua, Chinese Taipei and South Korea. The top three teams from the group advance to the Super Round. Following the Super Round, four teams will advance to the Gold and Bronze medal games.

The tournament is scheduled from September 1-10, taking place in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
