For the first time in 30 years, APSU Women’s Tennis are the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season Champions with a 5-2 win over the Belmont Bruins on Saturday, April 20.

“I’m so very proud of our young women,” APSU Head Coach Ross Brown told letsgopeay.com. “I believe in them and their tennis skills and this amazing season doesn’t come together without support from our athletic department.”

The Govs did this behind a 8-0 run in the conference and a 20-0 season-long stint.

APSU’s Lidia Yanes Garcia topped the Belmont’s Peyton Lee in the second singles match. Yanes Garcia finished the regular seasons with a 27-4 record and 8-0 in league play. Additionally, Yanes Garcia housed an overall 18-5 record in doubles play.

“I have to also thank my assistant Maria (Maria Sorbello) as she has had other opportunities, but chose to stay with us,” Brown told letsgopeay.com. “We are going to enjoy this for a couple of days, but then get ready to finish strong in the conference tournament. And as always, Lets Go Peay!”

APSU also found wins from Claudia Yanes Garcia, Fabienne Schmidt, Helena Kuppig and Danielle Morris.

The Govs will begin their postseason with a semifinal match in the OVC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. against the winner of Belmont and Mu**ay State.
