Govs basketball can’t stop Bruins shooting attack

The Govs basketball team were  in action in the bottom half of the double-header again conference leading Belmont Bruins.

The Govs are coming in on a seven-game losing streak. The Govs had a rhythm going early in the game that was silenced by the three-point shooting by the Bruins. The Govs controlled the rebounds and point in the paint for the most part and kept the Bruins on their heels.

Toward the end of the half, the Bruins started pulling away by capitalizing on APSU turnovers and raining down the three pointers. In the first half, the Govs did not have an answer for the play behind the arch nor the dribble penetration.

Belmont’s JJ Mann leads the Bruins in scoring and is responsible for most of the three’s by the Bruins and the Govs squad being led by Travis Betran and Chris Horton. The Bruins took a 17-point lead into halftime.

In the second half, The Govs tried to narrow the Bruins big halftime lead, but the Bruins continued their success from beyond the three-point line. The Bruins applied the pressure on the Govs by getting inside penetration and forcing turnovers.

The Govs were defiant and were determined to get back in the game. Costly turnovers and nearly flawless three-point shooting halted the Govs  comeback and kept them from narrowing the Bruin lead to anything less than 14.

The Govs were handed their eighth consecutive loss and their tenth loss in OVC play.  The Bruins get their eleventh OVC win by the final score 65-78.
