The Austin Peay State University Governors Baseball team hosted an inter-squad scrimmage between Team Smash and Team Bang at Raymond C Hand Park, with the first pitch coming down the pipe at 6 p.m. Team Smash came out on top, 13-4.

Coming off of a successful first season as head coach of Austin Peay Baseball, Roland Fanning wanted to take this opportunity to show what his team could do. A seven-inning matchup that started off as a pitcher’s duel slowly turned into an offensive showcase for Team Smash.

Team Bang was up 4-1 after the top of the fifth inning, amassing 2 runs in both the top of the third and fifth respectively. However, that’s when Team Smash’s bats got hot. The Home team for this matchup, Team Smash scored 5 in the bottom of the fifth, then 7 in the bottom of the sixth to put the nail in the coffin and close it out in the top of the seventh. These hot streaks were aided by home runs from Gus Freeman, Jaden Brown, and a Grand Slam from Jon Jon Gazdar.

The Govs showcased their skills and will return to action in the spring on their quest for an ASUN Championship.
