The Lady Govs softball team faced off against Trevecca Saturday, Feb. 16 afternoon. The Lady Govs set an APSU record with 18 runs, surpassing their 1994 record of 17.

In the two matches this meeting, APSU made 27 hits and scored 22 runs. APSU beat Trevecca; one 4-1 and the other 18-6. In the 4-1 match against Trevecca, the Lady Govs’ Jessica Ryan contributed with two hits and two RBIs. Shelby Norton recorded a home run, and junior Amanda De Vries finished the 18-6 match with three hits.

Sophomore Laurel Burroughs had an incredible game at the plate in the 18-6 win against Trevecca. Burroughs batted 1.000 this game, going 4-for-4.

She had a home run, a triple and two doubles to help her team to victory.

In the 4-1 APSU victory, things started off relatively slow, with a lack of action until the fourth inning. At this time, the Lady Govs recorded two runs off four hits, and the action picked up slightly.

In the 18-6 APSU victory, the Lady Govs dominated Trevecca in every inning besides the fourth. In the fourth inning, Trevecca matched runs with the APSU women at five and had one more hit than the

Lady Bat Govs. The damage had already been done, though, and was insurmountable.  The Lady Govs coasted to an 18-6 victory.

The APSU Bat Govs’ next opponent is Alabama A&M, who they play at the Cheryl Holt Field in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
