The Lady Govs entered Monday, Jan. 27 contest against Jacksonville State as one of the hottest teams in the Ohio Valley Conference. They had won their last four and had positioned themselves in the top four of the OVC standings as postseason nears closer with each passing day. Unfortunately Jacksonville State used a 40-point first half offensive exhibition to put the Lady Govs behind by as much as 18 points in the second half and pulled out the win 69-65 in the Dunn Center.

The first half was unkind to the Lady Govs as they shot only 31 percent from the floor while the Gamecocks shot an efficient 47 percent from the field. The second half was the exact opposite as the Lady Govs found their stroke but had dug to big of a whole to win their fifth game in a row.

Tiasha Gray led all scores with 20 points and Nicole Olszewski, who was held scoreless in the first half, poured in 16 points in the losing effort in front of a crowd of over 500 hundred people. Sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha continued her strong play during the conference schedule by posting a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Tearra Banks continued her impressive inaugural campaign as she chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds off the bench.

The Lady Govs have no time to dwell on this loss as bitter rival Murray State comes calling Thursdy, Jan. 30, at 7:oo PM in the Dunn Center. The Lady Govs are currently 7-14 on the year and 4-4 in OVC play.
