Govs ground Redhawks, 76-60, advance to semifinals

By ANTHONY SHINGLER | Senior Staff Writer

The Govs task was simple, win or go home. Behind senior guard Caleb Brown’s career-high 28 points, the Govs advanced to the semifinals of the OVC
Tournament over No. 7 Southeast Missouri 76-60.

The Govs had not advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals since the 2008-09 season.

With the victory, the Govs advance to face No. 2 Morehead State Friday
night at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium at 9 p.m. The game will be
broadcasted live on ESPNU.

“We did enough good things here to win and advance, that is the important
thing at this point,” said head coach Dave Loos. “The objective at
this point is to advance and we got the kind of game I thought we
would.”

A scary moment occurred right before halftime. Tyshwan Edmondson was
fouled and fell awkwardly. He hit the floor grabbing his right knee.
But Edmondson was able to walk off into the locker room. He would
return coming out at halftime wearing a sleeve over his right knee.

“As long as I can play on it I will keep playing. I will have to tough
it through.” Edmondson said.

Brown’s 28 points came on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. Edmondson added 13 points while grabbing six rebounds.

Josh Terry scored 11 points. John Fraley added five points while grabbing nine rebounds and blocking seven shots.

“This will be a good game for us,” Brown said about playing Morehead State.
“They have a really good team, and it will be a challenge, and it won’t
be easy. I am ready though.”
